Biographical / Historical
A native of Atlanta, Malcolm Minsk attended Boys High School and Emory University. He was treasurer and an active member of ZOA for many years. He was also a chairman for the Commission on Education at the National Youth Conference, president of the Allied Youth Council, president of Congregation Shearith Israel, president of the Hebrew Academy of Atlanta, and one of the founders of Camp Judaea in Henndersonville, N.C. He was a CPA and a partner in the accounting firm of Birnbrey, Minsk and Minsk. He was a member of the American Institute of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. Betty Minsk, formerly Betty Gerson from Morristown, Tennessee, attended the University of Miami and graduated from Ohio State University. She taught nursery school at the Atlanta Jewish Community Center and was a graduate student at Mercer University studying early childhood education. She was active in the Shearith Israel Sisterhood and was its president for two years and a board of trustees member. She was also a member of Hadassah, B’nai B’rith Women, a former vice president of the Hebrew Academy PTA, and correspondence secretary of the Women’s Division of the American Society for Technion in Atlanta. Together Betty and Malcolm had three children; Elisa, Wendy and Ronnie who all attended Hebrew Academy of Atlanta.
