Biographical / Historical

Harold Isaac Goodrich was a native of Milledgeville, Georgia. He was born to Baris (pronounced Boris, 1898-1973) and Rhoda Bergman Goodrich (1903-1987) on August 30, 1926. Mr. Goodrich graduated from Georgia Military Junior College and received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia after serving his country in World War II. Mr. Goodrich was a member of Congregation Sha' Arey Israel Synagogue in Macon. He was a leader of Explorer Scout Troop 187, a member of the Kiwanis and Milledgeville Jaycees. He was the owner of Harrold's ready to wear shop in Milledgeville for over 62 years in which time the business became an institution for the downtown area. He served on the Downtown Development Authority before it became a part of MainStreet/DDA. He served on the Milledgeville Zoning Board for 13 years, Mr. Goodrich proudly served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Georgia Military College for 25 years, including during challenging times. He recently was given the special Service Award in recognition by GMC for his enduring loyalty to the school. He was a designated Board Member Emeritus. Mr. Goodrich also served on the Milledgeville/Baldwin County Board of the Chamber of Commerce and served as President of the Downtown Merchants Association. Mr. Goodrich married Nathalie Levy of Atlanta, Georgia, and they had three children, Michael (1959-1992), Beth, and Robert. Harold Goodrich died on March 21, 2012 at the age of 86 in his hometown of Milledgeville.
