Biographical / Historical
Max C. (Mike) Gettinger attended elementary, high school, college and institutions of Judaic studies in New York City. Mrs. Gettinger served in the Navy during World War II. He practiced social work in various agencies. Subsequently, he worked in several Federations in community organization. From 1959 to 1962 he was Deputy Director General of Malben – J.D.C. program in Israel. Mr. Gettinger moved to Atlanta in 1962 as the Assistant Director of the Jewish Federation and shortly after became the Executive Director when Ed Kahn retired. He served in this position until 1979 when he retired and continued for two years as the first Director of Federation’s Endowment Program. As Director Emeritus of Federation, he served as consultant to various Jewish communities around the country helping to reorganize of establish new federations.
