Biographical / Historical

Sylvia Pollock Becker was born in Asheville, North Carolina. She attended the University of Missouri from 1947 – 1948. Her parents and grandparents immigrated to the United States from Russia. Her grandfather was a pawnbroker and her father had a chain of shoe stores named Butler's Shoes. They moved to Atlanta where Sylvia attended school and enjoyed the social activities revolving around the Jewish community. Sylvia married Saul Becker (1927-2014) and they had three children.

Abstract

Sylvia Pollock was born in Asheville, NC, January 3, 1929. She attended the University of Missouri from 1947 – 1948. Sylvia and Saul Becker married and moved to Atlanta in 1949, and are the parents of three children. Ms. Becker served on the following committees: Holocaust Commission; Israel Affairs Committee; Goodfriend Holocaust Collection at Woodruff Library, Emory University; National Jewish Resource Center.
