Biographical / Historical

The Bureau of Jewish Education was founded by the Savannah Jewish Council in approximately 1959. It oversaw three religious schools for the Jewish residents of Savannah – a kindergarten, a weekday Hebrew school, and a Sunday school. Little information can be found on the Bureau, but it is no longer in existence. As of 2017, Congregation Mickve Israel and Congregation Agudath Achim co-sponsor a religious school called the Shalom School, and Congregation B’nai B’rith Jacob sponsors the Hebrew Community School.
