Leo Max Frank (1884-1915) was arrested, tried, and convicted for the murder of Mary Phagan, a thirteen year old factory worker in 1913. Two years later, his sentence was commuted from death to life in prison by Governor John M. Slaton, who after reviewing the records, felt that he could not sentence Frank to death based on the evidence. Following the commutation of the sentence, Frank was kidnapped and lynched by vigilantes from Marietta, the hometown of Mary Phagan.

Abstract

Leo M. Frank was arrested, tried, and convicted for the murder of Mary Phagan, a thirteen year old factory worker in 1913. Following the commutation of the sentence, Frank was kidnapped and lynched by vigilantes from Marietta, the hometown of Mary Phagan. The papers consist of correspondence, autograph book, certificates, and newspaper articles relating to Leo M. Frank and various other family members.
