Scope and Contents

The collection is organized in two series. All material is arranged in alphabetical order by subject and in chronological order within each folder. The researcher interested in Jewish Women’s organizations and club life will find this collection of special interest. Series I, Atlanta Chapter Records, consists of meeting minutes, correspondence, and membership information of the Atlanta Chapter of Hadassah. Series II, Regional and National Records, consists of bulletins, meeting minutes, and committee reports of the national and regional offices of Hadassah.

Biographical / Historical

Hadassah Southeastern Region was organized in 1926, and is the umbrella organization for all Hadassah chapters in the Southeast. The Atlanta Chapter is the oldest, having been organized in 1916; only five years after Henrietta Szold met with eleven other American Jewish women to establish Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America. The original membership of 18 grew to over 2200 in the 1960s. Throughout its history the Atlanta Chapter has strongly supported and contributed to Hadassah’s Medical Program and to its vocational educational schools established during WWII.

Abstract

Hadassah Southeastern Region was organized in 1926, and is the umbrella organization for all Hadassah chapters in the Southeast. The Atlanta Chapter is the oldest, having been organized in 1916. are composed primarily of minutes, correspondence, committee reports and also records from Junior Hadassah, the Business and Professional division of Atlanta Hadassah, the Tel Chai Chapter, the Southeastern region and the national office.
